This lake house on Fern Lake in Marshall has been in the same family since 1926, when a small two-room house was moved to the lake. We kept the big family room and the original chimney, then tore down and rebuilt the rest close to the old footprint as a four bedroom, three bath home with a covered porch along the whole back. The family room got an updated wood-burning fireplace, refinished tongue-and-groove pine walls and new beams on the pine ceiling, and the 1926 chimney now serves a gas fireplace in the primary bedroom. It is modern and airtight, and it still feels like the old lake house.
